Karlamilyi-Nationalpark

The Karlamilyi National Park (formerly Rudall River National Park ), with 12,837 km ², the largest national park in Western Australia. History

For a long time, this area is called by the Aborigines also Karlymilyi, home to the Martu. Location

The park is located in one of the most remote regions of Western Australia. He can best be reached via the Telfer Mine Road from Marble Bar or the Talawana track of Newman. All roads to the park and within the park are unpaved, and you need all-wheel drive. The park has no facilities, so sufficient fuel, water, food and spare parts must be carried.

Geographically, the National Park is situated right on the border between the Great and Little Sandy Desert, and includes the catchment area of ​​Rudall River with a. Lake Dora and Lake Blanche, which are filled only after heavy rains with water, are within the park. Sand dunes covered much of the desert areas in the south and southwest of the park. They form parallel dune ridges with a height of 20 to 40 meters, and the distance of 200 meters ranges up to six kilometers. The dunes are up to 40 km long. The rocky area in the middle of the park, between the two deserts, shallow. Here also run the roads through the park, and there is access to the pools and water holes of the Rudall River.
