History

Old Train Station

The old Durlacher station was opened in the then still independent community Durlach 1843. The old station was east of the present station Durlacher. After the opening of the new station Durlacher in 1911 lost the old importance and was finally decommissioned in 1913. Then, in the south of the station still existed until 1990 operated the freight station, whose premises were built over in 2000. The old station was opened at the Baden- Palatinate Railway, which was first created in 1600 mm broad gauge. During constant use the Baden State Railways in 1854 converted to standard gauge. 1859, the line was opened by precinct.

New railway station

The new Durlacher station was opened on December 9, 1911, with the result that the route Muehlacker got a slightly different line run. The relocation of the railway station served mainly to eliminate the bottleneck between Durlach and Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof, as the trains from Muehlacker had to share the tracks of the Baden Mainline first.

1992, a two-track rail line was built north west of the station, which branches from the Durlacher Allee and converge onto the railway line Karlsruhe- Muehlacker after crossing the Baden- Palatinate Railway. Parallel to the railway station is a stop of the Albtal traffic -Gesellschaft mbH with two side platforms ( tracks 11 and 12), stopped at the now light rail lines S4 and S5, while the city tram stops S31 and S32 in the DB part of the station. By an underpass all platforms are interconnected.

In the years 2003-2005 the platforms in the DB part of the Durlacher station for 4.5 million euros have been completely renovated, so that accessibility as part of the S- Bahn Rhein Neckar and the Albtal traffic -Gesellschaft mbH was possible. Thus, the platform edges of the station were in one half to 76 cm increased ( to match the S- Bahn Rhein Neckar), in the other half at 55 cm (fitting the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn ). The platforms at the light rail station, maintaining their original height of 38 cm, as they were not part of the S- Bahn Rhein Neckar project.
