Karmsund

Karmsundbrua is an arch bridge in Norway, which connects the island to the mainland Karmøy in Haugesund ( Rogaland ). The bridge spans the Karmsund and was inaugurated by the then Crown Prince Olav on October 22, 1955. The bridge is 691 meters long and has a maximum span of 184 meters.

Initially, the use of the bridge was a toll road. The toll station was located on the mainland side.

The bridge was the end of the ferry across the Karmsund ( " Salhusferga "), which had for many years, " Town and Country " connected. The ferry was small and at low engine capacity, the ferry was often due to the strong current in the Karmsund problems to reach the opposite bank.
