Károly Kernstok

Kernstok Károly ( Károly Kernstok ) ( born December 23, 1873 in Budapest, † June 9, 1940 ) was a Hungarian painter of modern times.

Life

Kernstok was educated in Budapest, then went first to Munich and Paris, and finally return to Budapest.

In 1907 he founded with Róbert Berény, Dezso Czigány, Béla Czóbel, Odon Márffy, Dezso Orbán, Bertalan Pór and Lajos Tihanyi the group " Nyolcak " and participated in exhibitions of the Hungarian Society of Impressionists and Naturalists MIÉNK (Magyar Impresszionisták és Naturalisták Köre ) part. In 1919 he distinguished himself as a supporter of the Communists and therefore had to flee to Berlin. In 1926 he returned home ( Neudorf an der Donau). Now he also visited several times the artists' colony of Szolnok.

Exhibitions of his works took place in 1911 ( Művészházban ), 1917 ( Ernst Muzeum ), 1922 ( Kassai Muzeum ), 1928 (Ernst Muzeum ) and 1951 ( Fővárosi Népművelési Központ, Emlékkiállítás ).
