Karosserie Baur

The Baur body and vehicle GmbH was a coachbuilding company with corporate headquarters in Stuttgart.

The company was founded in 1910 in Stuttgart's mountain and remained until bankruptcy in late 1998 by the family. The majority of the company was taken over in 1999 by the IVM Automotive, which in turn since 2007 part of the Swedish Semcon Group. From the staff of the design department, however the company in2p founded by a former Baur 's head of development emerged.

Became famous for the company through conversions of BMW cars. These were produced mainly for the official sales by BMW dealers (eg, 3 Series, E21 ). Previously Baur already offered to subsequent modifications of the BMW 02 series. The following three generations of the 3 Series built Baur also subsequently the so-called Topcabriolet ( BAUR TC ) around.

This Baur conversions for the 3 BMWs are in contrast to the parallel offered from 1985 factory convertible BMW no full convertibles, because retained the window frame and there is a roll bar. There is a sturdy roof element that can be stowed in a space-saving mounting in the trunk on the driver 's and passenger's seat. The rear part of the roof is a classical folding top with a plastic disc ( when E21/TC1 and E30/TC2 ) or glass ( the E36/TC4 ). The two-part roof of the Baur TC enabled several variants of the open-top driving, including open Targa roof or as a Landaulet.

Other vehicles that were produced at Baur, are the Opel Kadett Aero and the BMW Z1. In February 2002, the G Convertible XL, the company also presented at the Motor Show in Geneva. It is based on the G -Class Cabriolet from Mercedes- Benz, but differs in many ways from this car, eg in length.
