Karpathos (regional unit)

The Regional District of Karpathos (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Karpathou Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Καρπάθου ) is one of 13 regional districts of the Greek region South Aegean. It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 of three island communities of the former Dodecanese Prefecture and corresponds exactly to the territory of the former province of Karpathos, which existed until 1997. Proportional to its 7,310 inhabitants sent to the field a representative to the Regional Council, but has no more political significance than local authority. It is divided today into two islands and communities Karpathos and Kasos.
