Karrin Allyson

Karrin Allyson (actually Allyson Schoonover, born July 27, 1963 in Great Bend, Barton County, Kansas) is an American jazz singer, pianist and songwriter.

Life

Karrin Allyson grew up in Omaha and San Francisco and began early on her career as a singer, pianist and songwriter. She graduated in 1987 from the University of Nebraska with a degree for classical piano. Then she moved to Minneapolis and began her career as a jazz singer. In 1990 she went to Kansas City, where they recorded their first album in 1992 under his own name - I Did not Know About You on Concord Records. In their following productions she worked with a stylistic repertoire of Brazilian music, blues, bebop, scat and jazz ballads to pop standards, soft rock and folk-rock songs. In 1998, Allyson is settled in New York City. In 2000, there was her album Ballads: Remembering John Coltrane that involved musicians such as James Carter, Steve Wilson, Bob Berg, James Williams, John Patitucci and Lewis Nash. In 2002 she took with Wilson, Nash, Mulgrew Miller and Peter Washington on the ballads album In Blue, with interpretations of songs such as Long As You're Living, Angel Eyes, Blue Motel Room.

The Coltrane album of 2001 and Footprints (2006) and Imagina: Songs of Brasil (2008 ) were each nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album category.
