Karsan

The Karsan Otomotiv Sanayii ve Tic. A.Ş. is an automotive, commercial vehicle and tractor manufacturer with corporate headquarters in Bursa in Turkey. From here, the company operates its two plants in the nearby Akçalar and in the industrial area in Nilüfer.

Company History

The foundation dates back to 1966 under the leadership of then- parent company, Koç Holding. In 1998, then Inan Kıraç reached the manufacturer's majority shareholder and therefore divided this into his Kıraça Holding. Until then, Karsan operational only be Akçalar works were produced in the tractors own brand name. In 1999, the hall was renovated and started production in October with an increased annual production capacity of 40,000 units in two-shift operation and 60,000 units in three-shift operation again. The manufacturer's maximum capacity utilization, however, amounts to 100,000 units. The production and assembly of cabins for tractors as well as the production of spare parts and some parts of the vehicle was moved to the newly built plant in Nilüfer. Since then, in addition to the tractors and vehicles of the Citroën, Fiat, Hyundai and Peugeot are produced under license.

Karsan took in 2010 with competitors such as Toyota, Honda and General Motors part in a tender for the City of New York for a production-ready large taxi. In this context, the Turkish company introduced the concept of his Karsan V1, then, however, the award went to Nissan NV200 with his model.
