Karsten Albert

Karsten Albert ( born October 13, 1968 in Friedrichroda ) is a former German luger.

Karsten Albert began in 1978 on the spit mountain lift his birthplace with the sport of luge. In 1988 he achieved his first success with the bronze medal at the East German Championships in Oberhof. In the World Cup season 1989/90 he finished in eighth place overall. With the political changes first came the sporty off, since you first put on the Olympic champion Jens Müller, on Georg Hackl and young riders like René Friedl at the German Luge Association. In the time he retrained as a power electronics. A surprising comeback he celebrated at the German Championships in 1992. In the Luge World Cup 1999, he was eighth in Koenigssee. A year later, in St. Moritz, he missed due to driving errors in both rounds as a possible fourth medal. He was again ninth in Calgary in 2001. With the team he won the silver medal.

Successful ran the European Championships. Here he won the 1998 in Oberhof gold with the team and individual silver. 2000 came the winning another silver medal with the team added. Twice Albert took part in the Olympic Games. In 1998 he was in Nagano twelfth, four years later in Salt Lake City sixth. Albert was the overall World Cup 1999/2000 Fourth, as in the following season, where he won his only two World Cup races in Oberhof, as well as in the 2001/ 02 season. Even in his last season 2002/ 03 he achieved a seventh place overall again. After that, he could no longer qualify for the World Cup team and ended his career.
