Karsten Kobs

Karsten Kobs ( born September 16, 1971 in Dortmund ) is a retired German hammer thrower.

Already in 1990, Karsten Kobs reached fourth place at the Junior World Championships. In 1996 he took part as a 25 -year-old for the first time at the European Cup athletics and was a surprise winner. In the same year he erwarf the title of German Champion, he could consistently win later in the years 1999 to 2005.

As a participant in the World Championships in Stuttgart in 1993, 1995 and 1997 in Gothenburg in Athens, he did not get beyond a ninth place (1997). But after he won the 1998 bronze medal at the European Championships in Budapest, he scored 1999 on June 26 in Dortmund with 82.78 m his personal record distance and to flourish as the world champion. Winning the title at the World Championships in Seville with 80.24 m was the high point in their sporting careers by Karsten Kobs. After his victory, he bathed in front of cameras in the moat of the 3000 - meter steeplechase race.

A third place at the World Cup in 2002, winning the European Cup in 2003, and an eighth place at the Olympic Games in Athens, rounding off his previous successes. At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006, he finished eighth.

Karsten Kobs had a competition weight of 123 kg at a height of 1.96 m. He began his career with the OSC Dortmund, but started from 1988 for the LG Olympia Dortmund. From 2000 to 2004 Kobs went to for TSV Bayer Leverkusen. In 2006 he started for Teutonia Lanstrop and in 2008 for the ASC 09 Dortmund.

2008 dab he was known for his third place at the German Championships in Nuremberg the end of his sporting career.
