Karu Jayasuriya

Karu Jayasuriya ( born September 29, 1940) is the Minister of Interior and Public Administration of Sri Lanka. He was vice chairman of the United National Party. It is an opposition party.

He was elected mayor of Colombo in 1997. After his efficient management of the most populous city in the country, the party made ​​him the candidate of the Office of the Prime Minister of the Western Province. He refused to put up posters because they promote violence, according to Jayasuriya and pollution of the city. He said he had worked hard to keep the city clean. Due to the electoral victory of the United National Party in 2001, he was Minister of Energy of the country.

With the dissolution of Parliament by Chandrika Kumaratunga in April 2004 and the defeat of the United National Party, he returned to the parliamentary opposition. In the presidential elections in 2005, was at the Wickremesinghe of the candidate of the party, was Jayasuriya candidate of the party for the office of Prime Minister. There was a power struggle between the two politicians. Jayasuriya lost this and switched with 18 other MPs to the government side.
