Carystus ( gr Κάρυστος ) is a city and municipality on the south coast of the Greek island of Evia ( Euboea ). The core city has about 5,000 inhabitants today; in the community, which was considerably enlarged by incorporations most recently in 2010, live about 13,500 inhabitants.

Evidence of settlements can be found as early as the Neolithic. The name of the place goes to the mythological tradition according to back to an eponymous son of Chiron. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to Venice, what to this day the 13th-century Castel Rosso recalls. On August 29, 1348 Venetians defeated at the Battle of Carystus the Genoese.
