Kasese

Location of Kasese in Uganda

Kasese is a town in southwestern Uganda with about 67 279 inhabitants. It is the capital of the eponymous district of Kasese. The town lies on the eastern edge of the Rwenzori mountain range and on the northwest edge of the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Until the 1970s, the copper reduction was significant. Today will be recovered from the tailings of the copper mines of cobalt. Kasese is the terminus of a rail link to Kampala, which was, however, limited to the last freight and has now been dismantled. There is also a small airfield.

From 1997 to 2001 flashed to Kasese the struggle of the rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces back on, making several thousand residents nearby settlements were expelled. Since the returned to Kasese in the year 2007 King Mumbere was on 19 October 2009 officially recognized by the Government of Uganda and Kasese now again is part of the ancient kingdom Rwenzururu, waived for the up -setting also from parts of the Bakonjo population ADF motivation to armed struggle.
