Kashihara Shrine

The Kashihara jingū (Japanese橿 原 神宫) is a Shinto shrine south-east at the foot of the mountain Unebiyama in the city of Kashihara ( Nara, Japan). It was built in 1889/1890 from the Meiji tennō. As Kami are here Jimmu - tennō with his wife, I- suzu -hime, worshiped. He belongs to the Chokusaisha. The shrine is located on the site of the alleged ( Unebi ) Kashiwara no Miya ( (亩 傍)橿 原 宫), the Government Palace of Jimmu - tennō.

The Kashihara jingū is the first built by the government shrine for the worship of Jimmu - tennō. Occasion for pilgrimages was the identification of the alleged remains of Jimmu in his tomb in 1863. Grave on this hill ( misasagi ) found long before the 19th century instead, but had not been recognized by the state or religious authorities.
