Kashmir Flycatcher ( Ficedula subrubra )

The Kashmir Flycatcher ( Ficedula subrubra ) is an Asian songbird that was once considered a subspecies of Zwergschnäppers.

Features

This insectivorous bird is 13 inches long. The male is gray - brown in color with orange - red edges. The also orange-red breast and throat are black edged. In the female and the young birds the top is brown and the spots on the bottom are less colorful.

Reproduction

The Kashmir flycatcher breeds in dense undergrowth of deciduous forests in the Kashmir region of Pakistan and India. The female lays three to five eggs which she incubates alone in a tree hollow.

The bird winters in gardens, tea plantations, and forest edges usually about 750 meters altitude in the mountains of Sri Lanka and the Western Ghats in India. The number 2500-10000 birds goes back due to habitat loss through logging, field crops and livestock.
