Kashmir flying squirrel

The Kashmir flying squirrel ( Eoglaucomys fimbriatus ) is a flying squirrel of the Himalayas. It is found mainly in Kashmir, but also in adjacent parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Traditionally, it is usually placed in the genus of horseshoe flying squirrel. Thorington founded in 1996, why the Kashmir flying squirrel deserve the position in a separate genus. In this argument, the dentition, the penis bones and the carpal bones were included because of their dissimilarity.

The Kashmir flying squirrel has a body length of 30 cm, added an approximately equally long tail. The coat color is dark gray on the upper side and lower side whitish. The tail has a conspicuous black tip. The shape resembles a horseshoe largely flying squirrel.

The habitat of the Kashmir flying squirrels are coniferous forests of northwestern Himalayas at altitudes of 1800-3600 m. The main enemy of this squirrel is the Charsa, a marten.

Another species, Eoglaucomys baberi, was not recognized by Thorington and viewed as a variant of the Kashmir Flying Squirrel.
