Kashmiri ( कॉशुर / کٲشر kŏśur ) is a language from the group of languages within the Indo-Aryan dardischen branch of the Indo-Iranian subgroup of the Indo-European language family.
It is spoken as a mother tongue by at least 5 million (2002) people who live mainly in India. It is one of 22 officially recognized languages of India and is usually written in Devanagari, rare in an extended Arabic script. Previously Kashmiri was written with its own script Sharada.
