Kashmiri ( कॉशुर / کٲشر kŏśur ) is a language from the group of languages ​​within the Indo-Aryan dardischen branch of the Indo-Iranian subgroup of the Indo-European language family.

It is spoken as a mother tongue by at least 5 million (2002) people who live mainly in India. It is one of 22 officially recognized languages ​​of India and is usually written in Devanagari, rare in an extended Arabic script. Previously Kashmiri was written with its own script Sharada.
