Geography

Minnesota State Route 22 is the main street of the village. The U.S. Highway 169 runs nearby.

History

The first settlers in Kasota and thus the entire present-day La Sueur County 1851 was Rueben Buetters. J. W. Babcock founded the city; it is the only significant settlement in the Kasota Township.

Babcock was also the one who first broke Kasota limestone in and around and sold. Babcock Stone Company was in the early history of the city, the most important things and the relationship between Babcock and the city was not always rosy. As Babcock decided to retire outside the city limits, the city forced him to fill the quarry. This led to the formation of the park in the city center.
