Kaspar Kokk

Kaspar Kokk ( born August 3, 1982 in Tartu) is an Estonian cross-country skier.

Life and career

Following a rather moderate success at the Junior World Championships in 2001 in Karpacz, where his best result of 29th place over 10 km was classic, Kokk was nominated for the World Cup in the domestic Otepaeae, which was also held on 10 km classic. However, the 18 -year-old athlete only reached the 59th place out of 65 athletes. His best result at Junior World Championships reached Kokk 2002 Schonach. The best Estonian starter he was 22, about 10 km freestyle. In the following two years he started mainly in the Continental or at low FIS races. In the 2003 Universiade in Tarvisio, he finished in the victory of the Russians Nikolai Pankratov 10-kilometer freestyle eleventh place.

In January 2005, Kokk won 15th place 10-kilometer classic at the home World Cup in Otepaeae not only his first World Cup points but also the ticket for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf. As the only Estonian starter about 15 km freestyle, he finished 65th place out of 121 athletes. From the following season he was now regularly used in the World Cup. The 16th place in the pursuit competition at the World Cup in Oberstdorf secured his participation at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin. There, too, he scored a notable success in the pursuit competition with 19th place. About 15 km freestyle, he was the victory of his compatriot Andrus Veerpalu 35 and with the Estonian season eight. Following a rather poor results - far beyond the World Cup points - in the 2006/07 season, Kokk surprised at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo. The mass start classic competition over 50 kilometers, it was unexpectedly eleventh. And in the pursuit of competition or about 15 km freestyle he reached with the places 29 and 28 better results than before in the World Cup. His best result in the 2007/ 08 season was the 27th about 15 km classic at the home World Cup in Otepaeae. Although only in the Russian Rybinsk he could fight for World Cup points in the 2008 /09 season, he was nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec. The tracking competition, he still gave up during the classical leg. With the Estonian season, he finished eighth. Kokk close up at the Tour de Ski 2009/2010 part, but could not compete for the last stage of illness. In the absence of the world's elite at the World Cup in the domestic Otepaeae 17th place he achieved the best finish in the season 2009/10. This secured him to participate in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. There he received initially because of increased hemoglobin levels, a protective barrier. After he finished 42nd in the pursuit race. As a starter for Estonian season he lost because of material problems at an early stage connection and handed in last place with 3 minutes behind at Aivar Rehemaa. The Estonian season finished at the end of the 14th and thus last place. With a 19th place in the pursuit competition in Rybinsk, he secured in the season 2010 /11 start at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo. In his only start, in the pursuit competition, he had to prematurely retire from the race. In summer 2011 Kokk announced to take a break from competitive sports. Since then he has worked among others as coach of the amateur team of the Estonian cycling teams peloton whose professional team is led by ehelmaligen Estonian professional cyclist Andrus August.
