Kaspar Kummer

Johann Caspar Kummer ( born December 10, 1795 in Eger in Schleusingen, † May 31 1870 in Coburg ), also Gaspard Kummer ( G. Kummer ), was a German flutist, composer and music educator of the late Viennese Classicism.

Life

Grief came the first time as a ten year old with the music in touch after he was given a small Terzflöte. Later he graduated in Schleusingen training as a town piper, the town musician Neumeister. The profession of city Piper required versatility; so learned sorrow violin, horn, trumpet, clarinet, bassoon, oboe, cello and double bass and also brought another instrument itself in: the flute. Only one year got grief at his master Neumeister, he was trained in music theory at the cantor of Abraham Gottlob Schleusingen Staeps. From 1813 to 1814 Kummer took part in the campaigns as a clarinetist of the Coburg court hautboists choir. Starting from 1835 Kummer worked as a flutist at the palace chapel of the Duke of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha Coburg in 1854 and took over management of the chapel. In November 1868, he had a stroke, but from which it recovered again. Another attack on May 1, 1870 ended his life.
