Kašperské Hory

Kašperské Hory ( German: Bergreichenstein, formerly rich stone) is a city in Okres Klatovy in the Czech Republic.

History

Kašperské Mountains is the highest (740 m above sea level. M. ) Gothic town in Bohemia. The town already existed in the 13th century as a mining town in the gold mining area. Under the reign of John of Bohemia was appointed to the mountain city and exempted from payment of customs duties and soldiers pay. In the 15th century, 40 mines were in operation. Emperor Charles IV 1356-1361 by the location of the Golden Path trade route ( Zlata stezka ) build to Passau. In addition, he had to protect the area built the castle Kašperk ( Karlberg ). In 1584 the city was named the royal city. The decliners gold production was offset by the rise in the trade of glass, wood, paper, but also by the livestock. The scene is the city in the novels and stories of the writer Karel Klostermann.

From 1939 to 1945, the city was part of the German Empire and seat of the Bavarian circle Bergreichenstein. After the Second World War, it was also here, as in many other places, expulsions and expropriations because of the Beneš decrees.

Due to the historical relations on the Gold Trail across established in 1991 twinned with Grafenau in the Bavarian Forest.
