Kaspi

Kaspi (Georgian კასპი kɑspɪ, ) is a city in Georgia in the region of Inner Kartli. Kaspi is a county seat of Munizipalitäts same name. It is located 48 kilometers northwest of the capital Tbilisi on both sides of the river Lechura. The status of a city got Caspian in 1959. Archaeological excavations prove that the city was inhabited since the Stone Age. In the Bronze Age the Caspian was an important place in the former Georgia. As the Georgian historian Leonti Mroweli ( 9th century ) wrote that the city of Kaspi was a Georgian - founded Uplos. In the historic Georgian sources Kaspi, along with other ancient Georgian cities, known as Sarkine, Urbnisi and Odsrche.
