Kassia

Cassia ( Cassia or even Kasia, medium Greek Κασσιανή * 810 in Constantinople Opel; † about 865) was a Byzantine poet and composer. Considered the earliest composer of the Occident.

Cassia came from an aristocratic family home. Her father was a high military. When a wife of Emperor Theophilos they forfeited by a repartee regarding the importance of women's ultimately the empresses dignity. She then founded a monastery in Constantinople Opel, where she spent the rest of their lives. There, she wrote poetry and composed important works.
