Kat (Band)

Kat ( pl., Hangman ') is a Polish Speed-/Thrash-Metal-Band. They are among the pioneers of the Polish metal scene.

History

During the first years Kat did excelled as an active live band and stepped into her home soon to along with Hanoi Rocks. 1985 was the first time the opportunity to record an LP. The album 666 offered gloomy Speed Metal with Polish-language texts about death and the devil - with a clear focus on the latter. Shortly after, a Belgian record company an English version of this album under the title Metal and Hell. However, Kat remained in Western Europe continue more of an insider - not least because they have been persistently ignored by the leading metal magazines.

On the following album recorded in 1987 Oddech Wymarłych Światów, which was released as the debut with a two-year delay, the typical Kat features are first identified. The technically savvy, powerful, sinister thrash metal that picks up many elements of traditional Polish music is a complex structure, usually located in the mid- tempo range, and often provided with acoustic passages. An exception is the album Ballady on which melancholy sounds predominate, while only rare and relatively discreet thrash metal echoes are heard. Until 1997, all texts are written in Polish. Because Kat the grim subject matter ( at all stressed affirmation of life ) remained loyal and they added to caustic criticism of the church, Catholic organizations often had targeted the band, for example by erwirkten appearance prohibitions.

In 1996 in recognition of her outstanding role in a tribute album titled Czarne Zastępy - W Hołdzie KAT, can be heard on the Death and Black Metal bands like Vader, Behemoth or Lux Occulta.

Style

At the beginning of the musicians from bands such as Deep Purple and Black Sabbath inspired, but wanted to achieve a mix of peace and brutality. As bands such as Venom, Anvil and Raven brought punk elements in the metal, took over the members of this Kat. While the songs the Heavy Metal are attributable to the single Noce Szatana, they have the sinister sound of the debut album the following and indicate the development of a more extreme style.
