Kate Douglas Wiggin

Kate Douglas Wiggin ( born September 28, 1856 in Philadelphia, † August 24, 1923 in Harrow, Middlesex, England) was an American children's author and educator.

Kate Douglas Smith Wiggin was born in Philadelphia and is of Welsh descent. It opened in 1878 the first free kindergarten in San Francisco (the " Silver Street Free Kindergarten" ). Together with her sister she also built in the 1880 a training school for kindergarten teachers. For a time she lived in Buxton, Maine, she for her book ( and later Acting) The Old Peabody Pew inspired.

She was also active as a children's author, the most famous was The Birds ' Christmas Carol (1887 ) and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1903 ).
