Katherine MacGregor

Katherine MacGregor ( born January 12, 1925 as Dorlee Deane MacGregor in Glendale, California) is an American actress, whose career has spanned Little House among others, from 1974 to 1983 in the U.S. television series.

Life and work

Katherine MacGregor was raised by her mother alone and began in 1947 under the stage name Scottie MacGregor her career in the children's program Scrapbook, Junior Edition, which she presented until 1949. Scottie ' was her nickname, which she got because of her Scottish ancestry. MacGregor studied dance and acting in New York.

In 1949 she married the well-known actor Bert Remsen, of which it was but divorced a short time later. 1954 followed the first feature film appearance, a small supporting role in On the Waterfront. Other minor roles in television films and series followed.

In the 1960s, she worked mainly in the theater, among others, also on Broadway, where she in Edward Albee's play Who 's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? occurred. MacGregor also worked as a writer for The Wee Hollywood Vedanta player, a children's theater group, she wrote pieces. It was not until the early 1970s she returned to television. She took on roles in various television productions and joined again in television series such as Mannix and The Chief. In 1974 she was hired by Michael Landon on Little House. For the role of Harriet Oleson she chose the serious -sounding stage name Katherine MacGregor, whom she had previously been used sporadically.

In the role of Harriet Oleson, she embodied a greedy and telltale business woman who is full of arrogance and also with intrigue does not hesitate to impose their selfish goals, because she is convinced to be the most important person in her hometown of Walnut Grove. The character was so ambivalent way that the role of the actress also repeatedly gave the opportunity to show her but ultimately good heart. Actually intended only as a supporting role, Katherine MacGregor gave the figure of Harriet Oleson so much life and vitality and convinced both the audience as well as Michael Landon, so that the woman Kramer has developed into a main character of the series.

On the final episode of Little House - The end of Walnut Grove in 1984, MacGregor could not see how Landon would have liked, involved as it was on a self-discovery journey through India. With the end of the series MacGregor also ended her acting career.

The actress has converted to Hinduism. She now lives retired in California, USA.
