Life and work

Katherine Paterson was born the daughter of Christian missionaries George and Mary Womeldorf to the world. Between 1937 and 1950 they had to move fifteen times with her family due to various circumstances. Several times, the residence of the Womeldorfs moved here between the United States and China.

From 1954, she studied English at King College in Bristol, Tennessee. She then worked for four years as a missionary in Japan. Upon her return to the United States in 1962, she married the Rev. John Paterson, with whom she has four children, two of whom are adopted. In addition to English, Chinese and Japanese Paterson also dominates the Russian language and was occasionally worked as a translator, among other things, for their own books. Today she lives and works in Vermont.
