Kathryn Joosten

Kathryn Joosten ( born December 20, 1939 in Eustis, Florida; † 2 June 2012 in Westlake Village, California ) was an American actress of Dutch origin who was mainly known through the television series Desperate Housewives, her two Emmy Awards and a further posthumous nomination earned.

Life

Kathryn Joosten first worked as a psychiatric nurse at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. During her work she met her future husband, a psychiatrist who know. She moved with him to Lake Forest (Illinois ), where she was the mother of two sons. In 1980, Joosten divorced from her alcoholic husband and went her previous career aspirations to become an actress after the theater community of Lake Forest. As a single mother she earned her living by doing odd jobs (string - papering work ) in their neighborhood as well as the seller. After successes in community theater Joosten joined an ensemble member at a theater in Chicago. The end of 1995 Joosten moved to Hollywood. Without an agent it came after five months on a first small guest role in the series all under one roof, then over the years followed larger roles in U.S. television.

Joosten was known by the NBC drama The West Wing as a secretary Mrs. Landingham. Numerous guest appearances in various U.S. series, as in Gilmore Girls, Scrubs - Grey 's Anatomy, Everwood or Charmed - Magical Witches, she was always known in Germany. Their most prominent role was that of Karen McCluskey in Desperate Housewives the drama series, which she held from 2005 until the series end. This performance earned Joosten, a two Emmys and she received after her death, a posthumous Emmy nomination for Best Guest Actress series.

Joosten was 45 years of her life smoker. 2001 was diagnosed with lung cancer. After two treatments, in 2001 and 2009, first shown success, the cancer spread again; on June 2, 2012, she died in Westlake Village, CA from this disease. Your last incarnate role was the Karen McCluskey. In Desperate Housewives, where she also died in the last episode of the series of lung cancer Joosten was in her last years decided not to depict smoking in movie productions and sat down also committed to send warnings.
