Kathryn Stockett

Kathryn Stockett (* 1969 in Jackson, Mississippi) is an American writer.

Life

Kathryn Stockett grew up under the care of a black domestic workers in Jackson, as her mother had left the family. She received her degree in English and Creative Writing at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and then went to New York City. She worked there until 2001, nine years in various magazines and in marketing.

Stockett 's first novel Good Ghosts ( engl. The Help ) describes the work of colored domestic servants in the households of white families at the beginning of the 1960s in their hometown. Before its release in 2009 it was 59 times rejected by different publishers. " Good Spirits" was immediately after the release of a phenomenal success, was 100 weeks on the bestseller list of the New York Times and has been translated into 40 languages. Under the title " The Help" it was filmed for the movies.

Stockett lives today (2012 ) with her family in Atlanta, Georgia.
