Kathu District
Kathu ( Thai อำเภอ กะทู้ ) is a district ( Amphoe ) of Phuket Province, it lies to the west of the island. Neighboring districts are: Amphoe Mueang Phuket Thalang in the north and west and south. The coast to the Andaman Sea in the west.
Geography
In the district of Kathu is the most famous and largest tourist beach in Phuket: Patong. To the north lies Kamala, which is far less developed in terms of tourism infrastructure.
History
On 5 December 1938, the district Kathu was downgraded to a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) and was also placed under the Amphoe Mueang Phuket. On December 10, 1959 Kathu got back the full Amphoe status.
Education
In Amphoe Kathu, Phuket Campus is the addition of Prince of Songkla University.
Management
The district has three subdistricts (tambon ), which in turn in 14 villages ( Muban ) are divided. Patong has a city - state ( thesaban Mueang ) Kathu during a small-town status ( thesaban tambon) holds. Kamala is a Tambon Administrative Organization (administrative organization - TAO ) managed.
