Kathy Bates
Kathleen Doyle " Kathy " Bates ( born June 28, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American actress, film director and Oscar -winning actress.
Life
Kathy Bates grew up in Memphis as Youngest of three children of the engineer Langdon Doyle Bates and Bates Kathleen Bertye. My great-great- grandfather was an emigrant from Ireland and doctor of the U.S. President Andrew Jackson. She graduated in 1969 a degree in Theatre Studies at Southern Methodist University from. After graduating she moved to New York City to promote her acting career.
She began her career working on Broadway, she played among others in Lanford Wilson's Fifth of July and in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean ( Director: Robert Altman ) together with Karen Black and Cher. In 1983, she received a Tony Award nomination for her role in Night, Mother. This award-winning production was performed over one year.
Her first film role, she received in the comedy Taking Off by the Czech director Milos Forman; also contributed Bates ( in the cast as " Bobo Bates ') the self-composed song Even Horses Had Wings at. In 1978, she starred opposite Dustin Hoffman in Straight Time, both played together again in 1990 in Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy. This was followed by roles in smaller films and guest roles in TV productions such as LA Law before 1990 got the lead role in the movie Misery. For this role, she was also awarded a Golden Globe for both an Academy Award, as well.
In 1991, she played a starring role alongside Mary Stuart Masterson and Jessica Tandy in Fried Green Tomatoes. An equally acclaimed starring role she took over in the 1995 film Dolores, for which they received, among others nominated for the Saturn Award. In 1997 she took over the role of Margaret ' Molly ' Brown in James Cameron's Titanic. She starred in 1998 alongside John Travolta and Emma Thompson in the drama with a vengeance, for the role of political advisor Libby Holden, she received an Academy Award, among others, and a Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actor. In 2002 she was also nominated for the film About Schmidt for both prices. In 2006, she and Terry Bradshaw played the parents of Matthew McConaughey's character in the film Failure to Launch. Between 2011 and 2012 she appeared in a lead role in the NBC series Harry 's Law. Since 2013 she has also been a part of the ensemble of the series American Horror Story - The dark side in you.
Aside from acting, Kathy Bates is also active as a director. It led, among others in several episodes of the television series Everwood and Six Feet Under - Died is always directed where she also guest appearances.
Her constant German dubbing voice is Regina Lemnitz.
Private
Kathy Bates was married from 1991 to 1997 with Tony Campisi. In 2003 it was found in her ovarian cancer, 2009, she appeared only in order to the public. 2012 at her cancer was found again, then she underwent a bilateral mastectomy.
