Katie Webster

Katie Webster ( born January 11, 1936 in Houston, † September 5, 1999 in League City, Texas) was an American jazz pianist and singer.

She was part Indian, part African- American descent and became known primarily through the recordings of the piano part in the Otis Redding hit I'm sitting on the dock of the bay. It was also - known as The Swamp Boogie Queen - after the title of their most famous album.

Her birth name was Kathryn Jewel Thorne. She learned gospel songs from her mother, made in the 50s and 60s international tours with the soul singer Otis Redding and can be heard on plates with Swamp blues musicians such as Lazy Lester. From 1964 to 1967 she played in the band Otis Redding. The international breakthrough as a soloist she succeeded in the 80 years of countless European tours and a record deal with Alligator Records. Never was fitted into " unique " styles such as blues, boogie woogie, but played jazz, blues, boogie woogie, rhythm and blues, swamp blues, jazzy pop songs, gospel and spirituals.
