Katina Paxinou

Katina Paxinou (Greek Κατίνα Παξινού, born December 17, 1900 in Piraeus, † February 22, 1973 in Athens ) was a Greek actress.

The Greek character actress began film work in 1928 and was one of the great theater actresses of Greece since the beginning of the 1930s. Together with her husband Alexis Miniotis it belonged to the ensemble of the Greek National Theater in Athens. 1943 she was Hollywood for the film version of Ernest Hemingway Bestsellers Whom the Bell Tolls committed and received for her portrayal of a Spanish member of the resistance against the fascists an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and a Golden Globe Award and was one of the first non-American actresses, the won an Oscar. Katina Paxinou died in 1973 from cancer.
