Katlego Mphela

Katlego Mphela ( born November 29, 1984 in Brits ) is a South African football player.

Club career

Mphela began his career with Jomo Cosmos. In 2003 he was discovered by the French first division side Racing Strasbourg during a trip to Europe Youth Team of Cosmos and contracted. After a total of 14 matches ( including 12 as a substitute ) to the end of the 2004/05 season, he was loaned to second division side Stade Reims Strasbourg for next season. There, the striker was at an early stage dissatisfied with his existence reservists and broke his stay at Reims after a few months.

From Strasbourg he was subsequently awarded to South Africa Supersport United, where Mphela quickly established and has been awarded at season's end as "Rookie of the Year." After the end of his loan period in the summer of 2006 he played again at Strasbourg, but was dismissed in November 2006, to be completed without a further commitment to the professional team of his club and returned to South Africa, where he again joined Super Sport. With United he won the 2008 South African Championship, was there with only one goal of the season from the penalty spot but not very successful. For the 2008/09 season, the attacker changed with the nickname "killer" to league rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. After only three hits in his first season for Sundowns, he met in the season 2009/10 17 times in league matches and won the title of the scorer. In the final table of the Championship they finished one point behind SuperSport second place. End of March 2011, he was arrested for drunk driving. Now he faces after the hearing on October 4, 2011, a prison sentence.

National

Mphela gave during the COSAFA Cup 2005, his debut in the South African national team and scored in the two games against the Seychelles and Mauritius total of three times. 2006 and 2008 belonged to the South African Mphela squad at the African Cup of Nations, failed in both tournaments with his team, but already in the group stage. In 2009 he was part of the 23- man squad for the Confederations Cup in their own country. During the tournament, Bernard Parker and were favored by coach Joel Santana Thembinkosi Fanteni, Mphela came only in the semi-final against Brazil for his first short-term mission. In the 3rd place match against the European champion Spain came Mphela was 64 minutes when substitute and scored nine minutes later to lead 1-0 hits. After the Spaniards turned the game in the closing stages, it was Mphela again, in injury time produced the equalizer with a free kick from 30 meters out and provided for the extension, in which Spain eventually prevailed 3-2. The free-kick was also found in the selection around the FIFA Puskás Award, the most remarkable goal of the year, again.
