Katrin Olsen
Katrin Olsen ( born January 5, 1978 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese rower who took up for the national team of Denmark at the 2008 Olympic Games. She was the first Färingerin at all, who participated in the Olympic games.
She is the most famous rower of the Faroe Islands and was twice runner-up world champion with the Danish sculls. 2007 she has received two gold medals overall World Cup champion in the double sculls.
Katrin Olsen was born in the Faroe Islands and raised, but moved to Copenhagen in 1999 to study medicine. She is in Københavns Roklub ( Copenhagen Rowing Club ) organizes and lives in Lyngby.
Her career began in 1995 in the Faroese rowing in typical Färöboot at Tórshavn Róðrarfelagið Knørrur. Rowing is on the Faroe Islands national sport and also very popular among women and girls. The Färöboote have no boom and no roll seats, but they are seaworthy. Katrin Olsen was in Färöboot twice Faroese champion (1997 and 1999 with the six Jarnbardur ), but the conversion to the standard international rowing racing boats in Denmark had claims to be "almost a shock." At the Rowing World Cup in the Austrian Ottenheim in June 2007 she directed along with teammate Juliane Elander Rasmussen, the reigning world champions Fan Xuefei Liu Jing and third place in the double sculls. On July 15, 2007 Olsen and Rasmussen won the World Cup in Lucerne and were thus overall World Cup winner in 2007.
In Denmark made since then serious hopes of the first gold at World Rowing Championships in 1994 at the World Championships 2007 in Munich .. Since Olsen / Rasmussen as hoped came in the semifinals on August 31 in the top six, was the Danish Women's Double Sculls automatically qualified for the Olympic rowing regatta 2008.
