Katzweiler

Katzweiler is a Rhineland-Palatinate municipality in the district of Kaiserslautern. It belongs to the municipality Otterbach.

Geography

Katzweiler located 10 kilometers north of Kaiserslautern at the Lauter and on the edge of the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest Nature Park. To Katzweiler includes the hamlets and residential places Forellenwoog, Hirschhornerhof, Karlshof, Kühbörncheshof, sheep mill and Sonnenhof.

History

1190 the village was first mentioned in documents as Cazwilere.

Religion

2012 were 56.6 percent of the population Protestant and 20.7 percent Catholic. The other belonged to a different religion or no religious affiliation were. Catholics belong to the diocese of Speyer, the Evangelical Lutheran Church for Protestant Palatinate.

Since 1832, there is on the Kühbörncheshof a Mennonite community, which has its own small church there. It has 71 members (as of 2012). The community is a community group with the Mennonite churches in Sembach and Kaiserslautern, where they in there " Elim - center " is also the bearer of a daycare center. At the regional level it belongs to the Association of South-West German Mennonite Churches (ASM ), at the federal level of the Association of Mennonite communities in Germany ( AMG).

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: " In a black forest gold hooks ( Wolf Angel) ".

It was approved in 1927 by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior. The assumption that it is an old Germanic runes at the Wolf Angel, could not be proved.

Culture and sights

Theater

The Freilichtspiele Katzweiler is one of the largest open-air stages in southwestern Germany with more than 10,000 visitors a year. The grandstand can accommodate almost 1,000 visitors.

In addition to performances of each one piece for adults and a play for children on the forest stage there is every winter, a comedy in one room theater.

Structures

The Protestant Church, built 1822-1826, is a late classical rectangular hall facility that has in its interior a organ case with a carving from the first half of the 18th century ( 1747 ).

Traffic

  • By opening the Lauter Valley Railway Kaiserslautern Lauterecken the community connection received on the railway network. The public transport system is integrated into the transport association Rhein- Neckar.
