Katzwinkel, Vulkaneifel

Katzwinkel is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Kelberg.

Geography

The municipality is located in the natural park Eifel. Neighboring municipalities are Kelberg, Ueß, Hörschhausen, Gefell, Sarmersbach and Beinhausen.

History

Stone Age excavations occupy a prehistoric colonization of the area around Katzwinkel. The first documentary mention of 1143 shows that the monastery had Springiersbach Länderereien in Katzwinkel.

Katzwinkel belonged to the county of Nürburg, and later to the Official Nürburg and thus to the Electorate of Cologne.

After taking the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1794 ) and the establishment of the French administrative system ( 1798) Katzwinkel the Mairie Sarmersbach was assigned in Canton down the Saar departments. Due to the decisions on the Congress of Vienna, the region came in 1815 with the Kingdom of Prussia and was from 1816 to who belonged to the newly constructed circle down in the Trier region later to the Rhine province. Administratively, the municipality Katzwinkel for mayor Sarmersbach belonged (1927 renamed " Office Sarmersbach "). Attractions

An attractions can be mentioned in Katzwinkel:
