Katzwinkel, Vulkaneifel
Katzwinkel is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Kelberg.
Geography
The municipality is located in the natural park Eifel. Neighboring municipalities are Kelberg, Ueß, Hörschhausen, Gefell, Sarmersbach and Beinhausen.
History
Stone Age excavations occupy a prehistoric colonization of the area around Katzwinkel. The first documentary mention of 1143 shows that the monastery had Springiersbach Länderereien in Katzwinkel.
Katzwinkel belonged to the county of Nürburg, and later to the Official Nürburg and thus to the Electorate of Cologne.
After taking the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1794 ) and the establishment of the French administrative system ( 1798) Katzwinkel the Mairie Sarmersbach was assigned in Canton down the Saar departments. Due to the decisions on the Congress of Vienna, the region came in 1815 with the Kingdom of Prussia and was from 1816 to who belonged to the newly constructed circle down in the Trier region later to the Rhine province. Administratively, the municipality Katzwinkel for mayor Sarmersbach belonged (1927 renamed " Office Sarmersbach "). The Office Sarmersbach was dissolved in 1931, Katzwinkel came down to the office, from 1968, the municipality Daun emerged. For November 7, 1970 Katzwinkel became integrated with Beinhausen, Boxberg, Brück, Hörschhausen and Neichen in the municipality Kelberg.

The local church has according to the current message list (May 2012) 161 inhabitants. Of these, 146 citizens are reported with primary and 15 with secondary citizens residing in Katzwinkel.

Parish council
The local council in Katzwinkel consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
Coat of arms
The blazon is: " Argent, a black bar cross, bewinkelt of four green three -pointed crowns ".
The black cross is reminiscent of the former belonging to the Electorate of Cologne.
Attractions
An attractions can be mentioned in Katzwinkel:
- The Afelskreuz with a chapel. The name points to drain the cross, but also a closeness to Eifel cross is possible. The current over 3 m high wooden cross was erected on the site of a decayed in 1931. The incised year 1231 indicates pilgrimages at that time.
- The devil stone with diameter of 2 m is a designated natural monument of solidified lava.

Katzwinkel won the 2005 honorary award of Rheinland -Pfalz for outstanding community projects. Among 97 submitted projects, the initiative of the place finished 7th. 2012, Katzwinkel involved in the " Our village has a future." Katzwinkel EC has the second place in the circle decision "Our village has a future" attained. The community is thus the volcanic Eifel district represented in the territorial decision of the Trier region.
