Kaunas State Musical Theatre

The musical theater Kaunas ( lit. Kauno muzikinis teatras ) is an opera house in Kaunas.

History

The theater building was constructed in 1890/91 according to the plans of the architect Ustin Golinewitsch. The hall has 500 seats, the building also has two foyers. 1892, the theater was opened. In the beginning there was no permanent ensemble, probes only guest performances.

1916, the stage was enlarged. 1920 was the theater seat of the Lithuanian Parliament Seimas Steigiamasis. 1922, the opera theater was nationalized.

Until 1948, the Lithuanian State Opera and the State Ballet were located in the building. After almost only operettas and musical comedies were played in Kaunas.

In 1972 Romas Kalanta burned in the theater garden. Since 2002, recalls one designed by the sculptor Robertas Antinis plaque on it.

Since independence, the Lithuanian Theatre Opera has also returned to his repertoire.
