Kaunchi culture

The Kaunchi culture ( 200 BC - 800 AD) is an archaeological site, which is located in the area along the river Syr Darya and its tributaries ( Angren, Chirchiq, Keles ).

The archaeological site is named after the site of the ancient city Kaunchi - Tepe. 1934-37 GM Grigoriev was one of the first Russian archaeologists who studied Kaunchi - Tepe.

Typical of the Kaunchi culture are settlements that are surrounded by kurgans ( Bestattungskatakomben ) with long Dromoi, crypts, and grave chambers with bone, harness and typical nomadic ritual supplements, were near water. It was mainly cattle and dryland agriculture operated ( millet, barley, wheat, rice, cotton, and fruits). From 300-400 AD weapons are also detectable as funeral accompaniments.

In the center of the settlements are situated mainly monumental buildings in oval shape, sometimes with a defensive wall. They are attributed to the political domain of Kangar.
