Kaupang

Kaupang ( Old Norse equivalent, such as the German term " market town ") was the name of several historical settlements in Norway.

There were a number of prehistoric settlements in Norway, who bore the name Kaupang. Usually today is a former town that was in the southern part of today's Fylke Vestfold, called Kaupang. This town, which was also named Skíringssalr, was the oldest city in Norway. Nearby they found the so-called Gokstad ship in a grave mound.
