Kauri Museum

The Kauri Museum is a museum in Matakohe in the New Zealand region Northland. It is dedicated to the Kauri tree and the coming of his fossil kauri resin as well as the pioneering days of New Zealand.

Exhibition

The tour of the museum begins in the " Vounteers Hall ", in which a 22.5 m long longitudinal section of a large Kauribaumes is located. In the subsequent sterling wings a mansion is shown in 1910 with period furniture and dolls in 6 rooms. The Tudor - Collings - wing and the Ross- wing set of furniture, paneling and carvings from Kauri, clothing and textiles and trophies of horse racing.

In the basement of the museum, the Amber Room is the world's largest collection of rough and polished Kauri resin pieces and objects from Kauri resin.

Outdoor area

In the outdoor area guests will find a fully equipped Grade II listed school building, which was used from 1878 to 1972. The historic Postamtvon Matakohe an exhibition of phones. It was from 1908 to 1988 post office in the community. In the outdoor area is a 45,000 years old Kauristamm and a winch are issued. On the other side of the street opposite the main entrance is the 1867 built of kauri church, which was used as a school, community and church space mainly by Methodists and Anglicans, and is still used for special occasions.
