The Kavala International Airport " Megas Alexandros " ( " Alexander the Great") (Greek Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Καβάλας " Μέγας Αλέξανδρος " / Kratikos Aerolimenas Kavala " Megas Alexandros " ) is the international airport of the Macedonian commercial and port city of Kavala in northern Greece in the Administrative Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The old airport in Amygdaleonas ( Αμυγδαλεώνας ) was operated from 1952 to 1981. Since 1981, the new Alexander the Great Airport is operated in Chrysoupoli ( Χρυσούπολη ).
Transport links
The airport is located about 8 miles from junction 49 Lefki Ammos ( Asprochoma ) to Highway 2 and 30 km east of Kavala. There are no public bus to Kavala, alternatives are taxi and rental car.
