The Kawasaki ER -5 is a motorcycle of the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki, which came on the market in 1996 and its sale was discontinued at the end of 2006, the middle class.
The engine comes from the GPZ 500, but because of other camshafts, lower compression, on the other exhaust system and other carburetor tuning with 50 hp 10 hp less than the GPZ 500 (since 2004 11 hp less).
Because of the simple technique ( carburetor, no digital engine management ), the ER- 5 has a high reliability and low purchase and maintenance costs also many maintenance and repair work without much effort can be self- performed. Therefore, the ER- 5 is very well suited especially for everyday rides. Even novice drivers are a target group because of the simple handling and low weight. For this, the ER- 5 will be offered with a throttled to 34 hp version.
Through several facelifts it has been slightly modified over the years. Among other things, the ER -5 is equipped with a U- Kat since 2004, making the Euro 2 standard is met. But the power was limited to 49 hp.
Since January 2007, the EU may only be sold motorcycles that meet the Euro 3 standard. Because the retrofit on the outdated technology of the ER -5 too costly and therefore the price advantage over the HE -6 would be largely canceled, the production was stopped.
