Kay Pollak

Kay Pollak ( born May 21, 1938 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish film director.

He initially studied mathematics and statistics. But already at the university he was active in student theater, where he worked as a director, writer and actor.

In the late 1960s Pollak was director of television films and series, entertainment programs and children's programs. In 1976 he directed his first feature film: Elvis! Elvis!. This was followed in 1980, the film Secret trips, for which he was awarded the Swedish Guldbagge Award for " Best Director ". The film was a success in Germany and was in competition at the Berlinale. His next film, Love Me! 1986 was shown in competition at the International Film Festival in Berlin.

Then Kay Pollak retired for a long time to write and hold seminars. How in heaven marked 2004 after 18 years they will return to the cinema. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He was also nominated in eight categories of the Swedish Guldbagge Film Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture, but came away empty. Received on 14 September 2006 As in Heaven the GUILD Film Prize awarded for the best foreign film at the film art fair in Leipzig.

In addition, Pollak is the author of a psychological counselor book entitled "Growing Through encounters " of which in Sweden more than 100,000 copies have been purchased.

Pollak is married to Carin Pollak since 1986, and the two have three children: Clara -Maria (* 1995), John (* 1993) and Mattias ( * 1989). Pollak has a Ph.D. and is a university teacher in mathematical statistics.
