Kazasker

Kazasker or Kadıasker ( Ottoman قاضيعسكر, IA Kazi ʿ asker, " Military Judge " ) was one of the highest offices in the Ottoman Empire. The Kazasker appointed judges and religious dignitaries. Kazasker were part of the " Divan -i Humayun ", the grand council of the Sultan. The institution of Kazasker was probably taken over by the Seljuk Turks in Anatolia.

Sultan Murad I in 1383 appointed the first Kazasker as supervisor for all judges and supreme authority of military courts. From Mehmed the Conqueror was there ever Kazasker for Anatolia and Rumelia for. At times it gave great conquests under Selim I also still a Kazasker for the Arab and Persian world. This resided in Diyarbakir. First Kazasker in Diyarbakir was İdris -i Bitlisi.

From the 16th century the Kazasker lost in connection with the strengthening of the Office of the Scheichülislams during the tenure Ebussud Efendi's influence. In 1914 the Kazasker of Anatolia and Rumelia were combined into one office. The Republic of Turkey abolished the office from 1924 together with the Caliphate.

The Office of Kazasker goes back to pre-Ottoman period. Al -Kindi describes the existence of this title for the period of Salih b. ʿ Alī in the year 750 AD Even with the Seljuks and Ayyubids existed the Office of the Army Judge.
