Kearney County, Nebraska
Kearney County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Minden, which was named after German immigrants from Minden.
Geography
The County is located in southern Nebraska, is about 40 km from the state of Kansas and has an area of 1337 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Buffalo County, Adams County, Webster County, Franklin County, Harlan County and Phelps County.
History
Kearney County was formed in 1860. It was named after the Fort Kearny, which in turn was named after Brigadier General Stephen W. Kearny.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Kearney County 6,882 people in 2,643 households and 1,902 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.82 percent White, 0.16 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.99 percent from other races groups; 0.58 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.34 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,643 households out of which 34.4 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.9 percent were married couples living together, 6.4 percent were single mothers, 28.0 percent were non-families, 24.3 percent of all households and 10.9 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.98.
Based on the county the population was spread from 26.8 percent population under 18 years, 6.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.7 percent between 45 and 64 years and 16.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 39,247, and the median income for a family was $ 44,877. Males have a median income of $ 29,987, women $ 20,081. The per capita income was $ 18,118. 5.5 percent of families and 8.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 10.0 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 6.8 percent of those 65 years.
