Kechnec

Kechnec ( until 1948 slovak " Kehnec " - to 1927 " Keňhec "; Hungarian Kenyhec ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 1133 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Košice - okolie kraj part of Košice.

Geography

Kechnec located in the south of the basin Košická kotlina close to the Hungarian border on the right bank of the creek Sokoliansky Potok, 20 kilometers to the south of Kosice. The place is fluidly connected with the neighboring Seňa and partly Milhosť.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1220 as Felnémet writing. The name refers to a medieval German colonization in the lower reaches of the Hornád what can be reported on behalf of the Hungarian communities Tornyosnémeti or Hidasnémeti across the border today. 1338 the first mill is mentioned. Since the late 16th century there was an influx of Hungarian and Slovak population, increasingly at the expense of the Germans. The place was a seat of important gender, such as Kenyheczi and Csikovics. 1828 were counted 85 houses and 633 inhabitants.

Until 1918, the in- county Abaúj- Torna place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today. On the basis of the First Vienna Award, it was 1938-45 again in Hungary.

In 1964, close to the places Kechnec and Milhosť community called Hraničná pri Hornáde together, which was incorporated into the municipality Seňa 1986. Since 1990 Kechnec is self again.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Kechnec 1,125 inhabitants, of whom 840 Slovaks, 146 Magyars, 22 Roma and each one Russine, Czech and Ukrainian. 114 inhabitants gave no information. 739 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, 111 inhabitants to the Reformed Church, 82 inhabitants of the Greek Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church of the 14 residents, five inhabitants to the Orthodox Church, three residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and evangelical church and two inhabitants to United Methodist Church; a resident was other denomination. 32 residents were non-denominational and 133 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.

Through the town, the state highway 68 that goes to the Hungarian border in the Hungarian National Road 3 next to Miskolc on runs. Kechnec has a rail connection through a stop on the railway line Miskolc- Košice. The expressway R4 ( E 71 ) together with the junction Kechnec west of the village was opened to traffic on November 7, 2013.
