The Kehrenbach, called the upper reaches Salmsbach, is about 12 km long, north-east or right-side tributary of the Fulda in northern Hesse Osthessischen Bergland in the Schwalm- Eder-Kreis.

Its catchment area covers 36.228 km ².

Course

The Kehrenbach rises and runs in the northeast part of the Schwalm-Eder -Kreis in Melsunger Bergland, a part of the Fulda- Werra- Uplands in Osthessischen Bergland. Its source lies between the mountains Wide stone ( 533.2 m above sea level. NN ) in the east-northeast and Salsmbachskopf ( 493.2 m ) in the south and the village Kehrenbach ( north-east district of Melsungen ) in the southwest. In a wooded area it is located between the mountain spurs Big Süttelsberg in the West and in the East Little Süttelsberg near a forest path at about 420 m.

The predominantly southwestward extending Kehrenbach initially flows through the west-southwest of Salmsbachkopf and its southwest foothills of the Schlossberg (approx. 452 m) at the county road 141 situated village Kehrenbach, which used in Bach near the west beneath the Castle Hill was the hunting lodge Kehrenbach. Along the ending in the village of K 141 flows the river further south. Some below the village opens after right-sided inflow of northwestern sand trench, coming from the east of the left side Ohebach one.

Then the Kehrenbach runs southwestward along the country road 3147 ( Melsungen Cemetery Günsterode ) through the village churchyard ( north-easterly district of Melsungen ), after which it crosses under the 306 m long viaduct Kehrenbach the high-speed line Hannover- Würzburg. Then he leaves the Melsunger mountains and flows into the Melsunger core city in which it passes through the grounds of the pharmaceutical and medical supplies at Braun.

Finally, the Kehrenbach opens in Melsungen around 150 m after passing under the viaduct Melsunger over which the Friedrich- Wilhelms- Northern Railway runs (Kassel - Bebra - Fulda), coming from the east directly east-southeast of Bartenwetzerbrücke to around 164 m above sea level. NN in the coming there roughly from Weser- source river Fulda.
