Keiko Abe

Keiko Abe (Japanese安 部 圭子, Keiko Abe, born April 18, 1937) is a Japanese composer and marimbist.

Life

Abe comes from a family of doctors and businessmen. As a child she studied piano and, from 12 years to play marimba and composing. After she played in a trio commercial light classics, she moved in 1962 to contemporary classical music.

In the following years she was employed as a concert virtuoso for Percussion and released 13 albums, containing often self- composed works on the marimba; besides, she had her own Japanese television show.

It also contributed to the development of the marimba as a tool, not only for their many contributions, but also by their role as design consultant of Marimbaherstellern. With the greater length and the resonance of the improved Marimbas Abe began composing first Japanese Children's Songs and Wind in the Bamboo in the early 1980s. When marimba virtuoso Abe led her own compositions and those of many other composers in the world. She teaches the Marimbaphonspiel at the Toho Music University in Tokyo.
