Keiko Matsui

Keiko Matsui (松 居 庆 子Japanese, Keiko Matsui, born July 26, 1961 in Tokyo as Keiko Doi ) is a Japanese keyboardist and composer who is active in the Smooth Jazz and New Age.

Life

Keiko Dois received after their fifth birthday for the first time piano lessons. Your piano training she deepened throughout the school years. Although focused her education at the Junior High School on European classical music, she developed an interest in jazz, and she began to write her own music. Stevie Wonder, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Maurice Jarre and Chick Corea are some of their musical influences from that time. Matsui studied children's culture at the Joshi Daigaku (日本 女子 大学, Women's University of Japan), but then began studying music at the Yamaha Music Foundation. She also played with the Japanese jazz fusion group Cosmos. At the age of 19 she was sent by Yamaha to America to record an album. There she met Kazu Matsui ( born June 5, 1954), who worked as a producer for this project. They married, and Keiko moved from Japan to America. In 1987 Matsui her first solo debut " Drop of Water " on. The title is a song of the singer Carl Anderson. In the years 1999 and 2000, Matsui received the Oasis award for best female smooth jazz artist. With the income from their music, it supports various cancer organizations.

Keiko and Kazu Matsui have two daughters.
